ABOUT BRIAN GATTIS

Brian Gattis has been tattooing for 13 years and at Southern Star Tattoo since it’s opening in August 2010. He is a native of Atlanta and began his apprenticeship in Midtown in 2006. Shortly after completing his apprenticeship, he moved to New Hampshire to work at his friend’s busy street shop. The experience was great, but after so many tribal shamrocks and Boston Red Sox tattoos, it was time to move on. He wound up on the West Coast tattooing in San Diego, which is home to the second largest Naval Base in the U.S.. Tattooing in California was a significant experience but Brian longed to be back in the South.

Once back in Atlanta, Brian worked for a couple years in Little Five Points and then on to Ponce de Leon Ave. “Ponce offers an eclectic clientele, from street hookers to frat boys and everything in between! I like not knowing who might walk in the door next. It keeps it interesting,” Brian said. “It could be a mechanic or a drunk grandma, you just never know.”

Brian enjoys doing most styles of tattooing but prefers tattoos that uphold tradition but push it forward at the same time; tattoos that are simple but still interesting and have a visual strength to them that hold up and look the best over time. Brian is a lifelong student of the craft and finds tattooing fun and challenging. He works our Ponce location Saturday - Tuesday 12 till late. Come get a tattoo from Brian next time he’s working!
